Applications Open for Jamnalal Bajaj Awards!

Applications are open for Jamnalal Bajaj Awards with an aim to felicitate the efforts of women and men who have dedicated their life to Gandhian constructive work and the ideals which Jamnalal Bajaj had cherished all his life.

Types of Awards

There are three National Awards and one International Award as listed below:

  • National Awards ( for India)
    • Constructive Work following Gandhian principles in rural India
    • Science and Technology for Rural Development
    • Development and Welfare of Women and Children (instituted in the memory of Jankidevi Bajaj)
  • International Award (for All Countries)
    • International Award for Promoting Gandhian Values Outside India (presented to an individual holding a foreign passport and nationality)

Award Information

Each award carries a Citation, a Trophy and a Cash Prize of Rs. 10,00,000 (for the International Award, the Cash Prize is equivalent to foreign exchange). Commemorating the 125th Birth Anniversary of Jamnalalji in November 2014, the Foundation increased the earlier amount of Rs. 5,00,000 to Rs. 10,00,000 in each award category.

Eligibility Criteria

  • National Awards
    • Constructive Work & Science and Technology for Rural Development:
      • This Award is for individual /individuals and not for institution.
      • Nominations in respect of any individual who has been the recipient of any of these Awards in the past will not be entertained.
    • Development and Welfare Of Women And Children:
      • This Award is for woman/women and not for an institution.
      • Women of foreign origin who are residing in India holding an Indian citizenship; and worked for a minimum period of 15 years in the areas of development and welfare of women and children of India, can apply for this award.
      • Nominations in respect of any woman who has been the recipient of any of these Awards in the past will not be entertained.
    • Same Criteria for National Awards
      • Nominations received from the heads of recognized institutions and other representative bodies and/or from eminent individuals as also those sent by any of them on their own initiative, will be considered for the Awards. The term ‘Institutions and other representative bodies’ covers Universities, Research Bodies, Social Welfare Institutions, Khadi and Village Industries Organizations, Chambers of Commerce, Rotary, Inner Wheel and Lions Clubs, concerned Government Departments of the Centre and the States and similar bodies. The heads of these institutions or bodies-Vice-Chancellors, Presidents, Secretaries and others may send their recommendations in their individual capacity also.
      • Nominations recommended by relatives and/or by the office bearers/members of the organization of the nominee will not be considered.
      • Self-nominations will not be entertained.
      • The sponsors should send factual information about the overall work pertaining to the nominees on the basis of the stated criteria.
      • The Foundation may defer or withhold conferring of the Award in any year if, in the opinion of the Council of Advisers of the Foundation, no nominee/s is/are found suitable for receiving such Award/Awards.
  • International Awards
    • The Award will be open to individuals with foreign nationality/Passport, regardless of race, creed or sex. The individual may or may not be of Indian origin.
    • For being considered for the Award, the name of the individual must be recommended, in writing, by persons belonging to any of the following categories, who may be invited by the Foundation to send recommendations:
    • Members of the Selection Committee for the Award
    • Persons who have received the Award in the past
    • Members of National Parliament
    • Recipients of Nobel Peace Prize
    • The Secretary General of the United Nations Organisation and other officials/leaders in international organisations or institutions whose aims and objects are consistent with the objects of the Awards
    • Presidents and Vice-Chancellors of Universities and Professors of Political Science, Philosophy, Religion, Economics, Sociology, Education, Rural Development, Natural Sciences, Environment and Ecology
    • Heads of Indian Embassies/Missions abroad and India’s Permanent Representatives to the UNO and similar World organizations
    • Heads of Foreign Embassies/Missions in India
    • Heads of academic institutions and social work organizations
    • Any other person whom the Trustees may wish to invite to submit proposals for the Award
    • Nominations recommended by relatives and/or by the office bearers/members of the organisation of the nominee will not be considered.
    • Self-nominations will not be entertained.
