Apply For IBRO-MENA School on Neuroscience and Neurological Disorders Research and Practice

Organizer: Dr.Hassan El-Fawal (American University in Cairo)

Aims and Scope of the School:

This IBRO-MENA school aims to address the basic challenges in Neuroscience education, capacity building and translation for sustainable solutions.

Description:

The WHO estimates that 1 in 6 individuals, globally, suffers from neurological diseases, inclusive of mental, traumatic, neurodegenerative, and autoimmune disorders, with a disproportionate number located in LMIC countries and “conflict zones.” Pediatric mental and neurological disorders are a particular challenge, not the least because of the paucity of data, the absence of registries, and the social stigma associated with developmental disorders, stunting, and malnutrition. Sadly, despite the evidence, few or no academic programs, beyond medical school neurology or psychiatry programs, provide training in basic and applied neuroscience or psychology. Yet, globally, it is recognized that advances in the broad scope of neuroscience and behavior, as well as in understanding pathophysiology and therapeutics, requires a team effort and a generation of researchers and practitioners committed to alleviating the human condition.
This 2018 IBRO-MENA School and Conference seeks to address some of these challenges, and serves as an invitation for regional and global collaboration in addressing challenges and deficiencies in the global public health imperative!

Students of medical and health professions, basic and biomedical science.
