At GreenHouse Capital, we are passionately and proudly dedicated to the progress of women in technology.
Our mission through GreenHouse Lab is to build world class, women-led technology companies by equipping entrepreneurs with the skills, resources and support needed to rapidly grow and scale their companies in emerging African markets. We do this by helping start-ups validate their ideas, bring their products to market and ultimately, attract venture capital investment
As one of Africa’s leading technology focused venture capital firms, GreenHouse Capital is uniquely positioned to offer the expertise, networks and resources needed to propel your company to the next level.
What is the Selection Criteria for GreenHouse Lab?
We’re looking for the most passionate entrepreneurs who are 100% dedicated to their ideas and understand that the journey to sustainable success will require a high level of drive and commitment.
Beyond this, we’re looking for early stage, investment-ready technology startups that have identified a critical need in Africa and are building an effective, sustainable and scalable solution. We’re looking for companies that have developed, at a minimum, a beta product and are in the process of refining their go-to-market strategy, building out sales channels and generating revenue.
Each startup must have at least one woman on their leadership team which should consist of at least 2 members and no more than 6 with at least one technical member. Selected startups will be required to commit full-time to the program.
In addition, we may also look out specifically for startups with products that complement existing products within our portfolio. While personal recommendations are given serious consideration, every applicant will still be required to go through the entire application process which includes an in-person or virtual interview.
How Long is the GreenHouse Lab Program?
The formal program is three months long but we continue to engage with and support GreenHouse Lab companies long after the program is over. This is because we believe that sustainable growth and success requires long-term commitment from both sides – the companies and us.
Do All Participating Startups Receive Funding?
While there are no initial GreenHouse Capital investments in the participating startups, we reserve the option of investing a minimum of $100K for equity within any of the companies if we have been able to help them reach specific milestones through the program.
Most importantly, we prepare each startup to put their best foot (and product) forward during Demo Day which takes place at the conclusion of the program and introduces the companies to a variety of investors within our wide network. These investors may offer additional investment beyond the 100K USD minimum offered by GreenHouse Capital.
In addition to equity investment, we also provide the necessary support, networks and enabling environment to ensure the success and investment readiness of all the startups in the program.
Where is the Program Located?
The program is located in Lagos, Nigeria. Participants will be required to be based in or move to Lagos to complete the three-month program.
How Do I Apply?
The application for the next batch of startups opens in July 2018. If you would like to receive a notice when the application opens, kindly send an email to lab@greenhouse.capital.
