As part of our research programme, South Africa – Toward Inclusive Economic Growth, UNU-WIDER now invites proposals from qualified researchers, research teams, and NGOs for papers based on topics within the Public revenue mobilization and Turning the tide on inequality work streams.Researchers from accepted proposals will have the opportunity to access newly available tax administrative data housed at the National Treasury of the Republic of South Africa in Pretoria. The recent release of this data is facilitating a rapid advancement of policy-relevant research on South African policy vis-à-vis issues of tax and employment policy, inequality, and public spending. Key research areas are outlined in the full Request for Research Proposals and are framed by a series of scoping studies also online. Request for research proposalsProposals from individuals, groups of individuals, as well as non-profit organizations are welcome. Researchers can be based in South Africa, or internationally. Special consideration will be given to southern African research teams that include junior and early-career researchers, as well as researchers from previously disadvantaged groups. Successful proposals will receive a total research honorarium of US$3,000-10,000 (depending on the qualifications of the lead author and assessment of the proposal).
